Shocking news today from Charles about Ed Smith. I guess I shouldn't
 assume that you heard. He died on the  26th of complications of the flu.
A seemingly unnecessary death, although as a Christian Ed might claim otherwise.

Edward Smith 

(August 20, 1941—December 26, 2003)

Edward Smith, a poet from Illinois and a recently featured poet at the Walla Walla Poetry Party 2003, died from complications arising from a bout with the flu. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends, old and new. He is survived by three Daughters, Leah Rose Smith of Alabama, Holly Campbell of Missouri, and Lindsay Smith, age six, of Belleville, Illinois.

On the website under the WW Poetry Party banner are new additional impressions by Amalio Madueño, Suzanne Lummis, Sherm Clow, Jim Bodeen, and one of the last poems of the late great Edward Smith. A festschrift and a memorial reading are in the incipient planning stages.
